COLCO: COALITION OF LEAKY CONDO OWNERS – www.myleakycondo.com
NEWS RELEASE – IMMEDIATE RELEASE – 2000.08.28
COLCO Shatters the “Bosa Myth” at its Latest Walkabout
COLCO held yet another successful walkabout Sunday, August 27th when we joined Bosa leaky condo owners at Bosa’s Portico (6th and Granville in Vancouver). COLCO received more media coverage at this event and the supportive calls, emails, and faxes are pouring in to the COLCO Steering Committee.

While Bosa may excel at marketing its developments, COLCO does even a better job at shattering the “Bosa Myth”.  On August 24, 2000, just prior to the walkabout, Portico Sales Manager Dennis Serraglio sent a letter to Portico owners asking them to contact COLCO and “indicate your dissatisfaction” about the

upcoming walkabout.  Correspondence from a few Portico owners suggested that they have bought into the “Bosa Myth”. COLCO received communications from these owners with statements such as:
  • ‘To the best of our knowledge Bosa has a solid reputation.’
  • ‘I recently moved into what I thought was a builder with a clean record in terms of leaky condos.’
In his letter to Portico owners Mr. Serraglio also stated “…we are very confident none of the people protesting live in a Bosa Development Corporation building.”  COLCO informed Portico owners that COLCO’s membership includes representatives from several leaky rotten lowrise and leaky rotten, rusting highrise Bosa developments.  Leaky rotten condo owners from Bosa developments joined us at this walkabout.
The bottom of this release provides a list of some of these developments which appear on COLCO’s Leaky Rotten Condo List #6. One Bosa condo owner, upon hearing from COLCO and learning of this list, wrote:
  • ’I  was quite surprised to hear of [Bosa’s] less than ideal history.’
This is how one Bosa leaky condo owner from QuayWest described his Bosa building:
  • “’BOSA quality’ is mere advertising puffery”
  • “Inappropriate design for West Coast weather conditions”
  • “Sloppy construction techniques”
  • “Corner-Cutting”
  • “Concrete or wood? It doesn't make a difference”
Some of the so-called best builders in British Columbia sold leaky rotten condos to thousands of trusting unsuspecting buyers.  They did so for many years.  For the most part, they sold defective, leaking, rotting,
rusting, mould infested low rise wood frame and high-rise concrete buildings and then refused to pay for the repair costs, forcing the owners into expensive, drawn-out litigation.  New Home Warranty of B.C. and the Yukon, now bankrupt and unable to pay for repairs to leaky rotten condos, has been exposed as a marketing sham which was owned, controlled, and directed by the builders (CHBA) of leaky rotten condos.  Please refer to www.myleakycondo.com and the Barrett Commission Report at www.hpo.bc.ca for more information, and/or call COLCO.

Mr. Serraglio also wrote “Portico has not experienced any water penetration problems”.  However, COLCO received information that suggests that this statement may be inaccurate.

On Sunday, September 10th, COLCO will hold a Walkabout at Bosa-Appia’s The Spectrum. The Spectrum is located on 4788 Kingsway and 4788 Hazell (across from Metrotown). Join us from 12:30 to 3pm at this walkabout.  Bring your COLCO T-Shirts, make your posters, be creative. Visitors are welcome.

COLCO’s program continues ... and we mean business! It’s time to lift our heads from the summer sand to plan and prepare for the 2000-2001 COLCO Program Schedule. Come to the Douglas Recreation Centre in Langley at 1:00 pm on Saturday, September 30, 2000.  Join Carmen Maretic, founder of CASH (Compensation and Accountability to Soaked Homeowners), to learn about the political action plan for the upcoming provincial and federal elections.  In 1999 COLCO identified that at least 250,000 voters are affected by leaky rotten condos. We will send politicians a very strong message. Carmen will also reveal the public awareness campaign planned by CASH to compliment these activities.

Leaky Condo Owners, families and COLCO supporters are working to ensure that compensation is a major political issue for both upcoming elections.  To get involved, or for more information, be sure to attend COLCO’s fall meetings; and don't forget to tell your  friends and neighbours.

The Coalition Of Leaky Condo Owners (COLCO) is a volunteer, non-profit group of leaky condo owners seeking 100% financial compensation for the cost of reconstruction on their leaky rotten condos. COLCO is a strong voice representing leaky condo owners. COLCO holds Walkabouts to draw attention to the social, emotional, and financial devastation experienced by the owners of leaky rotten condos and to emphasize the need for 100% compensation.
