COLCO: THE COALITION OF LEAKY CONDO OWNERS – www.myleakycondo.com
NEWS RELEASE – IMMEDIATE RELEASE – 2000.06.13 Why is Premier Dosanjh blocking compensation for leaky condo victims?
As Attorney General, Dosanjh blocked Dr. James Balderson’s call (April/May 1999) for an investigation into the residential building industry and the bankrupt New Home Warranty Program which was owned, controlled, and directed by The Canadian Homebuilder’s Association. (The matter is now under RCMP investigation, following the Second Barrett Commission of Inquiry, which was appointed before Dosanjh replaced Dan Miller as Premier.) As Premier, Dosanjh is blocking immediate provincial compensation for victims. His Minister, Jan Pullinger, declared a compensation program for leaky condo victims is “unworkable”. (News Conference, North Vancouver, June 12th). Premier Dosanjh – a millionaire lawyer, landlord, developer, and builder of condos – continues to direct the government's efforts toward renewing trust in a fraudulent, rotten residential construction industry which built and sold tens of thousands of leaky rotten condos, thus destroying the financial plans and devastating the lives of more than 100,000 British Colombians. Just what the industry wants, more trusting buyers urged on by the government. Mr. Dosanjh has come a long way from a dry dusty village in India to become Premier of British Columbia, a land of great opportunity. Unfortunately, the Premieres personal financial plan for success as a Canadian millionaire condo developers seems to be clouding his political judgment and duty regarding Canadian social justice for the victims of leaky rotten condos. Dosanjh is moving the NDP to the right, closer to the developer-controlled Liberal Party - which opposes compensation. Has he been listening to Federal Liberal MP Dhaliwal, who built leaky rotten condos in Surrey? Will Dosanjh jump ship and leave the victims floundering? Sandra La Couvee – 604-594-4318; fax 684-3125
