COLCO News 2002.11.28 COLCO: THE COALITION OF LEAKY CONDO OWNERS www.myleakycondo.com T 604-739-4190; F 604-739-4109 Insurance industry lobbies to gut home warranties by James Balderson, COLCO Maretic says a letter from warranty providers addressed to Minister Abbott reporting the insurance industry backing the home warranty program wants to reduce the coverage by excluding claims relating to damage from mould and earthquake. According to the draft letter available from CASH, the industry also wants to impose a deductible on claims. Maretic says the changes amount to "protecting the interests of the construction industry over that of the consumers." The letter is copied to Premier Campbell's Minister of De-Regulation, Kevin Falcon, and the home building industry, including Peter Simpson, an often-quoted spokesman for the Greater Vancouver Homebuilders' Association whose members built thousands of leaky rotten condos. The letter was not copied to COLCO, The Coalition of Leaky Condo Owners, the most significant group hit by the two billion dollar leaky condo fiasco and the subsequent collapse of the faulty New home Warranty Program owned, controlled and directed by the Canandian Home Boulders' Association in BC. Campbell's Leaky Condo Task Force remains silent. The owners of leaky rotten mouldy condos built in British Columbia by members of the Canadian Home Builders' Association are stuck with the mold, rot and repair bills. Campbell continues to block $500,000,000.00 in federal compensation aid for the owners of leaky condos.
